Learn How to Connect the Slack Integration
Published Date: June 1, 2026 | Last Updated: June 1, 2026
Overview
Tello IAM supports two Slack integration types depending on the organization's Slack plan:
- Slack Business+ — for organizations on a single Slack workspace
- Slack Enterprise Grid — for organizations using Slack's multi-workspace Enterprise Grid
Both integrations connect via OAuth and follow the same authorization flow. Select the option that matches your organization's Slack plan when adding the integration.
Before connecting
The Administrator completing the connection must have a Workspace Owner or Org Owner account in Slack with sufficient permissions to install apps and administer the workspace or organization.
Connect Slack
- Navigate to Integrations in the left navigation.
- Select + Add Integration.
- Search for Slack and select Add next to the appropriate option — Slack Business+ or Slack Enterprise Grid.
- Select Login to Slack Business+ or Login to Slack Enterprise Grid. You will be redirected to Slack to authorize access.
- Enter your organization's Slack workspace URL and select Continue.
- Sign in with your Slack administrator credentials.
- If prompted, complete email verification by entering the code sent to your account.
- On the permissions review page, confirm the workspace selected is correct. Review the permissions Tello IAM is requesting and select Allow.
- After authorization is complete, Tello IAM displays a Connection Established confirmation showing the organization name, connected account, and connection timestamp. Select Done. The integration appears on the Integrations page and an initial sync begins automatically.
Permissions granted
During the authorization flow, Tello IAM requests the following permissions in Slack:
- Content and info about you — allows Tello IAM to read profile information for the authorizing user
- Content and info about your workspace — allows Tello IAM to read user and workspace data for sync
- Administer Slack for your organization — allows Tello IAM to provision and deprovision user access
Verify the connection
After the initial sync completes, confirm the following on the Integrations page:
- The Slack integration displays a status of
Active - A sync timestamp is present and reflects the completed sync
- User records on the Users page display detected Slack permissions in the Access column
Reauthorizing the connection
If the Slack integration loses authorization, it will display an error on the Integrations page. To reauthorize, select the integration row, select Configure, and complete the authorization flow again using a valid administrator account.
