Integration Guide: Asana
Learn How to Connect the Asana Integration
Published Date: June 1, 2026 | Last Updated: June 1, 2026
Overview
The Asana integration connects Tello IAM to your Asana organization using a Service Account token. Unlike OAuth integrations, Asana requires a token to be generated in the Asana Admin Console and entered into Tello IAM manually.
Before connecting
The Administrator completing this setup must have an Asana Admin account with access to the Asana Admin Console. The Service Account created for Tello IAM must be configured with Full permissions.
Step 1: Create a Service Account in Asana
- Sign in to the Asana Admin Console.
- In the left navigation, select Apps, then select Service accounts.
- Select Add service account.
- Enter a name (for example,
Tello IAM Service Account) and an optional description. - Under Permission scopes, select Full permissions. Full permissions are required for Tello IAM to read user data and manage access in Asana.
- Select Save changes.
- Asana generates a token. Select Copy to copy the token immediately.
Important: The token is only displayed once. Copy it before closing the dialog. If the token is lost, a new service account must be created.
Step 2: Connect Asana in Tello IAM
- Navigate to Integrations in the left navigation.
- Select + Add Integration.
- Search for Asana and select Add.
- Paste the copied token into the Service Account Token field.
- Select Test Connection to verify the token is valid. A Connection successful confirmation will appear if the token is accepted.
- Select Connect. The integration appears on the Integrations page and an initial sync begins automatically.
Verify the connection
After the initial sync completes, confirm the following on the Integrations page:
- The Asana integration displays a status of
Active - A sync timestamp is present and reflects the completed sync
- User records on the Users page display detected Asana permissions in the Access column
Reauthorizing the connection
If the Asana integration loses authorization, it will display an error on the Integrations page. To reauthorize, generate a new Service Account token in the Asana Admin Console, then select the integration row in Tello IAM, select Configure, and enter the new token.
